You so totally hit this on the head. I had this policy with my job and I transferred to another state and I found out my coverage was no longer any good. I then found out that I could only change my policy once a year, even with my transfer. I was so upset.

I have a family so my health insurance is one of the first things I look into when I move to a new place. If you are in an area that has a regional health plan, you need to definitely look into whether you will have viable coverage in your new hometown.

I wonder if many older people that choose to move to Florida to live out their retirement years take this into consideration. I would be leery of moving to a new place, especially with all the hurricanes.

I would be worried about what could be spread as a result of all the hurricanes that come through Florida. For this reason alone, I would want some type of viable health insurance.
