Art Gets Inspired From Everywhere

There is a concept that is well-known among artists. It goes by a variety of different names, the most common of which is “refilling the well“. It refers to the act of going out and exposing yourself to different things so that you can have a constant flow of inspiration which allows your art to develop.

Many new artists think that they have to “refill the well” with inspiration and experiences that are directly related to art. They go to art galleries and fashion show events and concerts thinking that other people’s art will inspire them to make or change their own. That may be true. However, the truly creative artists will make sure to also expose themselves to interesting new things that aren’t specifically related to art.

The creative individual says “yes” to things. Someone invites them to go see an airsoft gun show and they go to check out kwa guns and tokyo marui guns - not because they are particularly interested in these things but because they aren’t that familiar with them and this new experience has the potential to teach them something and inspire them anew. That’s the kind of creativity that artists are all about.
